Choosing A Web Site Models

The most common mistakes that beginners make is using the wrong web site model! Let's look as a few of the most popular models.

Portal Sites

A Web site or service that offers a broad array of resources and services, such as e-mail, forums, search engines, and on-line shopping malls. The first Web portals were online services, such as AOL, that provided access to the Web, but by now most of the traditional search engines have transformed themselves into Web portals to attract and keep a larger audience.

A Web portal is commonly referred to as simply a portal. Yahoo and Alta Vista are both good examples of portal sites. http://www.yahoo.com     http://www.altavista.com.

NOTE: Portal are like large malls and require a lot of time to setup due to the numerous products or services they provide. YOU SHOULD AVOID BUILDING A PORTAL SITE AT THIS STAGE. They are very time consuming and aren't efficient for direct marketing purposes!
REMEMBER THIS: Your web site should sell only 1 product at a time!

Information Portal Sites
These sites provides content and information freely. Profits are arrived from fees collected from advertisers that purchase Banner space rather than from the visitors. Examples: Search engine sites.

Subscription Site
Members Pay Monthly Fees For Site Access To Specific Information. These sites generate Monthly income from it's members/subscribers and products sales. These are the most profitable sites to operate. They require specific targeted information for a targeted market. These site are becoming more and more popular. People will gladly pay for valuable information. My favorite subscription sites are "Net Breakthroughs" operated by Terry Dean and  "Secrets To Their Success" operated by Cory Rudl.

Direct Response  Web Sites (DRWS) AKA  Mini Sites :

This Web model is very focused and is designed to get a specific response from the reader. This model will  always ask the reader to do something depending on the desired response wanted. Direct Response sites will always require the reader to do something. To complete a form, to send an email, to make a telephone call etc. These sites always call for some action! This will be the model that most of you will be following. These sites are also referred to as "mini web sites". There are basically 2 types of DRWS models we will focus on. They are the direct sales site model and the lead generation web site model. Learn all you can about these models.

  • Sales Site: This is a web site designed to sell a specific product or service. The desired response is for the reader to make a purchase. Some sales sites are simply sales letters placed on a web site. The most important aspect of the sales site is the copy or the text. Every word is designed to take the reader to the pay button. The really good sales sites will contain no banners, no animation, no audio. Nothing is placed on the site that will distract the reader from reading the content. The power of this model is in the copy. It engages the reader and takes them down the road to close the sale. Here are a few sample for you see:

  • Lead Generating Web SiteThese site are designed to gather leads for potential prospects and customers. They will usually offer something of value in in exchange for a name and email address. The challenge with this type of site is to qualify the prospects. You have to separate the serious buyers from the curious buyers.

You've seen advertisements by car dealers giving away television sets, radios, etc. for everyone that test drives a car on a particular day. The assumption is that if you are willing to test drive the care you are probably ready to purchase one.

However, there will be individuals that come to the dealer's showroom just to get the free gift. They have no intention of buying a car nor do they have the ability to pay for one. They have no money and no credit yet, they walk around the car and kick the tires and waste the salesman's time. They only want the FREEBIES. Some dealers will pre qualify these visitors to separate the "tire kickers" from the qualified buyers.

The same applies to the operators of lead generating web site. Just as the automobile dealer has methods and techniques for screening out the "tire kickers". The operators of Lead Generating Web Sites have methods and tactics for screening our "tire kickers" also.  sample lead generating site

Note: A Direct Response Web Site ask for a specific response. Not Numerous responses. These  site are very focused and are designed for a specific response.  Here are some of the popular direct response web site models.

The $2500.00 Seminar

Bill's $2,200 Story (Has This Happened To You ?)

Bill had learned from a friend that he could make a lot of money  with a web site. So being anxious and a man of action and good intentions, Bill used his personal resourcefulness and located a web designer. Bill told the web designer exactly what he wanted and the web designer delivered the site in record time!  After the site was completed nothing happened. No traffic and No Income! Bill was confused and didn't know what to do next! Cost? $2500.

Months later, Bill met Bob and explained his dilemma. Bob visited the site and sent Bill a Email with his recommendation. After considering Bob's recommendations, Bill realized he had the following problems to correct:

Problem:

...he had used a "portal web site model"  when a "lead generation model" was what he needed. He also discovered that he failed to create a "sales site". To compound matters the hosting company that Bill select didn't offer the features features he needed to plug in a e-commerce system. Bill's new $2500.00 site was beautiful and it was not generating any sales. It wasn't appropriate for what Bill wanted to do. It violated some important rules of Direct Response Web Site Marketing.

Solution:

Bill used the hosting company that Bob recommended, contacted his web designer again and built three web models: a Lead Generating Site, A Portal Site and a Direct Response Sales Site just as Bob recommended. Cost: $800.00 Bill later learned that he could have gotten the site put up for $ 300.00.

Bill later learned that Bob was a master copywriter and international marketing consultant. Bob had conducting numerous marketing test on various web site models for himself and his clients. On of Bob's clients, MR. H. is using one of Bob's model to generate over $3,500 per day using Bob's Direct Response Wed Site model.  And Mr. H has no digital products. He has to ship every order himself. Yet he earns over a million dollars per year and has less than 200 customers.

Bill was blown away by all of his newly found information. Mr. H recommended that Bill purchase some of Bob's material to get all the little details for himself. Bill purchased Bob's materials and is well on his way to generating a Six Figure Income his first year on line.

Bill's lack of knowledge cost him $2,400 more than it should have. Bill could have purchased all of Bob's material and put his sites up for a lot less than $2,400. This was a very expensive lesson in the power of superior information.

 See the chart below.

Bill's  Way

 Bob's New Way

Information Cost 0 0
SITE  A $2,500.00 $400.00
SITE  B $   800.00  0
TOTAL $3,300.00

$400.00
(LIVE SITE)

Difference

 $2,400.00
(Expense)

  $2,100.00 (Savings)

Cheap advice is expensive!

Conclusion:

Bills lack of superior information cost him $2,200. He could have purchased all of Bob's products, and had his web up for less than he spent. Of course, the knowledge gained would be his for a lifetime to use over and over. He could also use his new knowledge to start a lucrative consulting business if he wanted.

The moral of this story :

  • Cheap advise is expensive and good advice is not cheap!

  • Don't Believe Everything You Hear!

  • It pays to learn how to earn before you begin!

  • "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting, get understanding. (Prov:4:7 Kings James)

  • "Through skillful and godly Wisdom is a house, a life, a home, a family is built, and by understanding it is established in a sound foundation!  (Prov:24:3-4 Amplified Bible)

  • Any enterprise is built upon wise planning becomes strong through common sense and profits wonderfully by staying abreast of the facts. (Prov.24:3-4 Living Bible)

There are three key reasons why you need to purchase your own domain name:

    1. Your web host cannot hold you hostage! If rate increase while services decline, you can easily move your domain name to another host.

    2. Should you be forced to move your web site from one host to another, customers will still automatically find you because your domain name has not changed.

    3. If you have a "slick" domain name, it can entice people surfing the web to visit your site before someone else’s.

  • Select a domain name that really suits your business!
For more information on domains see

  • You need to get your own domain name and get it quick… they are going REALLY FAST! It is getting harder and harder to find really good ones. To start:

Check your name for availability by clicking here:

    Search for a domain name.

Important Note: When you purchase your domain name, you are essentially reserving the name for your own usage. You do not need to have the domain hosted – you can simply set it aside for later use. In other words, when you purchase a domain name, you are not automatically required to host it and put up a web site. So if you have a few good business ideas, you may want to purchase a related domain name for later use.

To Purchase and Register your domain name  click here.
Do not sign up for hosting here! Register only. Cost $ 8.95

2) Reserve you domain name here : Go Daddy.com

2) Choose Your Web Host

Get the right hosting service based on your need! If you will be using a simple sales site then a low cost hosting service should be fine. Hosting with GoDaddy for $10-$15.00 per month will do fine1

If you plan to use audio, video, and need the ability to maintain a data base, the you should avoid budget hosting plans and use a high end hosting company that will allow you to expand your business as it grows.

When you choose a web host, you are essentially choosing a business partner. This is the company that will make sure your potential customers can easily access your web site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you hastily choose a web host that cannot meet the needs of your growing Internet business, you risk losing thousands of dollars in downtime.

    1. Make an educated decision when choosing your web host. Determine what features you really need!

    2. You should never have your web site hosted by your Internet Service Provider (ISP), you absolutely must avoid free web hosting.

    3. If you need a web host, but don’t want the hassle of researching various companies to find one that meets your needs or GUIDE LINES, here are a few references:

Simple 3-8 page mini site: click here now  cost $8.00-$12.00 monthly.

If you need more advance features and desire a account that will meet all your future needs consider these options:

      A. Click here to the company that we use .
      B. Click here to use another company that we use .

3) Learn HTML, Hire A Web Designer, Or Do Both!

  • If you decide to hire a web designer, consider hiring a student from a local new media college by contacting program supervisors for their top recommendations. You can frequently find talented designers who will work at reduced rates to gain experience.

  • Find a web site you like and then ask for the contact information of the person who designed it – this is a great tactic as you already have an idea of how good they are.

  • You can bid the job out to professional web designers world wide by clicking here

  • Consider using one of the HTML editors recommended below. – these programs will allow you to design a web page yourself with very little knowledge of the actual HTML code, making your job 100 times easier!

Important Note: If you decide to hire a web designer, we still recommend that you teach yourself some basic HTML. That way, you can make minor adjustments and changes to your web site without having to wait for your designer to get around to it. This will save you a lot of time, frustration, and money!
